Konservative Treatment
In Which Condition is Stopping Applied?
Decaying the enamel has a lot of reasons such as bacterial plaque, starchy foods(sugar, flour etc.), constitutional factors ( tooth structure, saliva components). Then the cavity occurs on the tooth. Stopping is to clean the decays and fill the cavity with a filling material.
How does it diagnose?
Tooth decay occurs in the chewing surface of the tooth, interface of the contacted tooth or collum of the tooth. It is easy to detect the decays or brown color in the visible surface of the tooth. But if there is not such symptoms, it also needs x-ray laser diagnosis. If the decay started in the enamel is not treated, it goes ahead the dentine. Dentine is easier solute than the enamel. So the decay goes ahead quickly. If the decay reached to the dentine, the patient can have a sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, sour. This ache will remove when above mentioned effects disappear. If the ache is continuous, it means that the decay went ahead vein-nerve tissue of the tooth (dental pulp). So it needs root canal operation.
Treatment Options
After cleaning the decays of the tooth, different filling materials can be used. They are amalgam, composite or porcelain filling. The appropriate one of them is choosed. Since amalgam filling consists of the mixture of silver, copper and tin with mercury , this filling has dark color and is not esthetic.
Composite Filling
This is a plastic mixture which consists of silicondioxide particules. Because of some colour selections, you can not realize it on the tooth. This is called esthetic-white filling. Before that, it can be used for only frontal teeth, but after it was made stronger by some methods, it is appropriate for back teeth. Filling material is replaced in to the teeth by using special binding agent and then it is made stronger by light device and it is glazed in the same seance. With this material, a big loss can be restored in the frontal teeth. So, if the patient is careful when biting, the filling should have longer life.
Porcelain Filling: In porcelain filling, the prepared cavity is measured and sent it to the laboratory. In the next seance, the glazed porcelain is sticked to the cavity.
What are the treatment stages?
If necessary, the teeth is anesthetized locally. The decay is cleaned by hand device, rotating device or lase. After cleaning, the cavity is prepared for filling. We roughen the teeth with acid gel for better adaptation. The bonding agent is applied to the teeth. After putting the filling material, it is made harder by polimerizing with blue light. In the last stage, after filling, the teeth is glazed with discs and rubbers. You can have a sensitivity in your teeth after filling for example sensitivity to outside pressure, air, sweet food or hot. Such sensitivities decrease in a week and then they are completely removed. If you have a oversensitivity during 2 weeks, you should contact your dentist.
What is Recontouring?
Recontouring is to reshape or called odontoplasty in the dentistry. It is a cheap and quick process. It is to change the length, shape and surface of the teeth after removing a little part of the enamel.
In Which Condition is it applied?
Recontouring is the most protective one in esthetic processes. Recontouring can recover the collection of bacterial plaque, small crack which causes tartar and overlapping. So it helps removing little disorders and recovering all dental health. But recontouring can not be used in old and wide stoppings, deep cracks or broken teeths. If recontouring is not enough to restore the disorders of the teeth, the treatment is combined with bonding. Bonding is to repair the teeth with a composite resin material which has the same color of the teeth, if the teeth are decayed, broken, crenated or discoloured. Recontouring can be applied without anesthesia in general. Because in the treatment the dental pulp is not effected. One or two seance is enough for completing the treatment.
How is it applied?
If whole tooth structure is not decayed, recontouring can be applied. To determine the place and the bigness of the dental pulp which is vein-nerve tissue of the tooth, the tooth has x-ray. If the enamel is thin or the dental pulp is very close to the surface of the tooth, recontouring can not be applied. A little amount is removed from the enamel by abrading with a disc or thin diamond drills. In order to form the disorders between the teeth and smooth out them, paper abrasives are used. After reshaping the teeth, they are glazed.
What should we done after the treatment?
You do not need any special care after the treatment. If bonding was additionally applied after recontouring, keeping the teeth clean is more important in order to prevent colouring of the composite resin material.
What is the Bonding?
If the teeth is decayed, broken, crenated or coloured, bonding is to repair the teeth with the composite resin material which has the same colour of the teeth.
In Which condition is it applied?
Bonding is an easy, cheap and cosmetical application. Generally it is used for cosmetics need. It is used for recovering the coloured and crenated teeth, closing the distance (diestama) between the teeth, changing the colour and shape of the teeth.
How is it applied?
It takes 30-60 minutes. If it is applied in a few teeth, you may need a few seances. First of all, appropriate colour is selected and then roughen the surface of the tooth. Since bonding material can hold the tooth easily, the tooth is covered with a compatible material. After the preparation, the composite resin material is shaped whatever to want and then fixed it to the tooth. The tooth is made tough by UV light. After this process it is restored by the dentist. Until the material is as bright as the other parts of the tooth, it is glazed.
What to do after the treatment?
In first 48 hours, in order to protect from discolours or reduce them, you should avoid eating colorful food and drinking.
What are the risks?
Composite resin is not as powerful as natural tooth. When you chew the ice or a pen, it can chip off. The life of bonding is a few years, then it can be repaired. Some habits of mouth and the amount of bonding are important to detect the life of the bonding.
